Overview

The past emphasis on the continuity of human race had been heavily biased toward industrial and scientific development, but this brought enormous destruction to the ecological environment and the survival of our race. Now we need to focus on the caring and nurturing nature of humanity, in order to rebalance the uneven development of society and repair the damage to the ecosystem.

The cultural industries therefore become a pivotal dimension to develop. Our goal for developing cultural industries is to create spiritual happiness and achieve long-term survival and prosperity for the people of Taiwan by leveraging the rich cultural heritages of Taiwan to establish a solid and native economic basis.

Cultures, as “industries” is an emerging idea. No other institute of higher learning in Taiwan has program to educate student in this discipline. National Pingtung University of Education is the first school to systematically and on a large scale, recognizes and cultivates talents in this field.

This department has three characteristics:
1. To study the foundations of cultural theories and to cultivate cultural capacities,
2. To research the local cultures and cultural industries,
3. To explore the development and management of cultural industries.
